About Hinkley

Hinkley’s story began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley founded the company to make solid copper lighting fixtures, primarily for outdoor use. In the 1930s Stanley Wiedemer bought into the business, and his family has guided it ever since – today the fourth generation of Wiedemers lead a company that has been designing lighting for more than a century.

Over the decades Hinkley moved from copper lanterns to treated steel, copper plating and opal glass, and on to the broad decorative collections it is known for now. Its stated aim is lighting that is superior in design and quality, and its designs follow interiors trends closely – from crisp geometric pendants to soft opal diffusers and layered finishes such as heritage brass, pewter and polished antique nickel.

Bathroom designs such as Hollis carry an IP44 rating and come with clear or opal diffusers. Does Hinkley make lights for bathrooms?

Can I choose between clear and opal glass?

Many Hinkley ranges, including Harper and Hollis, are offered with either a clear diffuser for a sparkling look or an opal diffuser for softer, glare-free light. The glass option is shown in each product title.

Are Hinkley lights dimmable?
