About David Hunt

The Hunt family’s lighting story begins with John Hunt, born in 1687 and listed as a master brass founder making fine candlesticks. By tradition the eldest son of each generation has been named John, and each has worked in fine lighting. Along the way the business moved from gas to electric light, and in 1960 it opened the factory where its lights are still made today.

Every design is created in-house and made by hand in David Hunt’s own workshops, where metalworkers, painters and sculptors work side by side and each piece passes through many pairs of hands. Brass and bronze are at the heart of the collection, finished in tones such as antique brass, pewter and polished bronze, and many fittings come complete with bespoke fabric or metal shades. The result is lighting that pairs traditional skills with a contemporary eye.

Our David Hunt range covers more than 200 designs, led by statement feature and modern pendants – including the sculptural Antler and Hyde collections and the multi-arm Bailey chandeliers. You’ll also find wall lights, table and floor lamps, picture lights and single pendants, plus a selection of outdoor and bathroom wall lights such as the IP64-rated Admiral bulkheads, available in brass, nickel and copper finishes.

Are David Hunt lights made to order?

Yes. Most David Hunt lights are handmade to order in the brand’s own workshops once your order is placed. Because they are made specifically for you, made-to-order David Hunt items cannot be returned, so please check sizes, finishes and shade options carefully before ordering.

Do David Hunt pendants and wall lights come with shades?

Many do. Products described as ‘complete with’ or ‘with bespoke shades’ include their shades, while others are sold as the fitting only. Check the product title and description, and you’ll also find a small selection of David Hunt shades sold separately.

Can I use David Hunt lights outside or in a bathroom?

Selected designs are suitable. The Admiral bulkheads, for example, are rated IP64 for outdoor and bathroom use. Always check the IP rating on the individual product page, and have any bathroom or exterior fitting installed by a qualified electrician.
